The Journey Behind the ChronoSphere

The Journey Behind the ChronoSphere

A watch stand, a case, a pouch - something that is specifically designed to optimally shelter your watch, but that is also less bland, than a standard case. That was what we were discussing three years ago at the beginning of our journey to the ChronoSphere. Now, we knew that we needed help to create this new object, a designer, ideally someone that has a background in horology and is not afraid to look at things from a new perspective. When asking around we were introduced to Maximilian Maertens, who had studied with friends of ours at the prestigious University of Weimar - famously the founding city of the Bauhaus school and a focal point of the German Enlightenment as well as home of leading literary figures of Weimar Classicism. At the time Max had already designed several iconic pieces for MB&F such as the TriPod L'Epee x MB&F. Clearly Max was the perfect match!

For the design of the ChronoSphere Max was inspired by the meridians of our planet and the intricate dance of time zones as a captivating symbol of our communal journey. The final design is a beautiful and unique round watch container that keeps your timepiece safe, but is also a cool design piece. Definitely nothing that you would want to hide in a safe, but rather openly display, knowing that your watch is safely cocooned in the ChronoSphere and protected from prying eyes.

Once the design was finalised, we immediately set out to discuss the best materials with our local partners across Switzerland. The first stop was tide®. We have known the team at tide®  for several years now and are excited to work on this design with them. Tide Ocean® Material is an award-winning, repurposed ocean PET that not only looks great but is also very durable and helps combat plastic pollution. Therefore, we knew that Tide Ocean® Material is the right choice for the outer shell.

For the inner shell we work with a Swiss manufacturer that otherwise supplies the best in the horology industry with materials for watch boxes. With them we also chose a luxury yet sustainable suede that protects your timepiece from any scratches when it is in the ChronoSphere.

Besides choosing the right materials, we also went through several rounds of testing with Max and our engineers to create a secure locking mechanism. In the final design a simple horizontal twist lets three aluminium balls snap into place and safely locks the ChronoSphere.

As we unveil the ChronoSphere, I invite you to explore its beauty and functionality yourself. We believe that caring for your watch should be an experience—one that combines elegance, practicality and innovation. So go ahead and see it for yourself!
