Keeping the Sparkle in Hölstein: AIS Collective x Oris Manufacture Open House
There is something special about the hum of a watch manufacture. Last weekend, the AIS Collective team had the incredible honor of taking our passion for horology to the source: the Oris Manufacture Open House in Hölstein.
Following our successful watch care events and workshops at Maison Oris Basel and Oris Zürich, this was a homecoming of sorts. Over 400 watch aficionados joined us for a day of gears, gaskets, and most importantly, watch cleaning. The energy was electric, and the enthusiasm for maintaining timepieces was so high that we sold out of every single product we brought!

If you couldn't make it to the workshop, don't worry. We’re sharing the top insights from the day on how to clean watches like a professional.
The Art of Watch Care: Why It Matters
A mechanical watch is a masterpiece of engineering, but skin oils, dust, and environmental grime can dull its luster and even affect the longevity of the seals. So proper watch care isn't just about aesthetics, but mainly preservation. During our workshop, we demonstrated that with the right tools, anyone can master the art of the professional yet safe "home service" clean.
How to Clean an Oris (and Other Luxury Timepieces)
Whether you're sporting an Aquis Diver or a Big Crown Pointer Date, the fundamentals of how to clean an Oris remain the same:
- 1. Check the Crown: Always ensure the crown is screwed down or pushed in fully to maintain water resistance.
- 2. The Gentle Rinse: Use lukewarm water to remove loose grit that could scratch the case during scrubbing.
- 3. The AIS Advantage: Use a dedicated, pH-neutral watch cleaning solution and a soft-bristled brush to reach into the lugs and between bracelet links - like the AIS ChronoPen.
- 4. Dry with Care: Always use a clean microfiber or cotton cloth to avoid lint buildup.
Handling the Bronze: How to Remove Bronze Patina on a Watch
Oris is famous for its stunning bronze timepieces, like the Carl Brashear editions. While many love the aged look, some enthusiasts prefer the "fresh out of the box" rose-gold glow.
If you’re wondering how to remove bronze patina on a watch, the secret lies in a gentle acidic reaction. In our workshop, we discussed how our specialised bronze cleaner, the AIS BronzePen, can safely lift oxidation without damaging the metal underneath. Just remember to rinse and dry thoroughly afterward!
Don't Forget the Strap: How to Clean Leather Watch Straps
A pristine watch head looks out of place on a dirty band. How to clean leather watch straps is one of the most common questions we get. Leather is porous, so it absorbs sweat and oils.
- 1. Pump a small amount of ChronoLeatherPen liquid onto the strap.
- 2. Gently massage the solution into the strap using the silicone tip of our tool.
- 3. Allow the strap to absorb the solution before wiping off any excess.
A Massive Thank You
We want to extend a huge Thank You to our friends at ORIS Zürich & Hölstein (you know who you are!) for being such incredible hosts. Seeing over 400 enthusiasts passionate about keeping their collections in top shape reminds us why we do what we do.
